As the lead energy consultant for PAE Consulting Engineers, I helped the building achieve an EUI of 16 using passive cooling strategies, and a DOAS system with radiant heating.

This innovative passive cooling design strategy used automatic lower window actuators which are opened on one side of the building when the conditions are right outside. Air is then naturally pulled in through these low openings and moves up through the space to the natural turbine fans at the roof, evacuating hot stale air from the space. The highly efficient DOAS system with radiant heating further provided a high indoor air quality, with exceptional heat recovery for the ventilation air, delivered low and to the active playing zone and viewing areas, which are kept very comfortable with the radiant floor system. Intelligent shading was used with fins, overhangs, and skylights, to let the sun in when desired, and shade during peak cooling hours, to allow moderate comfort all year with minimal mechanical conditioning.
